Valves in action -
Pressure reducing valve DM 3, 4
Pressure regulation at the water brake of an engine test bed

An engine factory manufactures large Diesel engines that are used as generator drive for power plants or ships. After its completion every single engine has to go through tests at a test bed for about three days where fine adjustment and a performance test will be carried out. For this purpose the Diesel engine is connected to a water brake that simulates the load and allows measuring of the engine output. Mankenberg‘s pressure reducing valve DM 4 regulates the water pressure in the water brake.

DM 3, 4

Various pressures within the water system cause various loads at the engine. The weight-loaded doubleseat valve DM 4 allows precise regulation and is characterised by its lever mechanism allowing easy but effective pressure setting. Simultaneously the valve is insensitive to temperature fluctuations or vibrations that cannot be avoided during the test.
